Apple iPhone vs. Samsung F700

Apple iPhone
VS.

One of the iPhone competitors out on the handheld and cellular phone market, is the Samsung F700. With a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a similar appearance (when closed) to the Apple iPhone, the Samsung F700 has a drag and drop interface to some degree, Bluetooth 2.0 and a more powerful camera at 5.0 megapixels in comparison to the Apple iPhone’s 2.0 megapixel camera.

Despite its similarity in some ways to the iPhone and its multimedia capabilities, the slim Samsung F700 though a great product, cannot truly compare with the Apple iPhone. While the new Samsung F700 boasts 2.78 inch bright color display, 3G connectivity with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA capability, and 5.0 megapixel camera with auto focus, the new F700 still trails behind the Apple iPhone in screen size and resolution, in HTML email, iPod capabilities, photo and video editing software, storage, widgets, push email, and google Maps!

The arrival of the Samsung F700 however does remarkably establish the era of new sophisticated all-in-one multimedia devices where you can listen to music, download Internet files, call your friends, and take video from just one device! The Samsung F700 possesses VibeTonz technology, which gives the user slight vibrations upon touching the screen. Using 3GSM at the new 7.2 HSDPA network, the Samsung F700 although offering theoretically a lot faster network connectivity, the Samsung F700 has two drawbacks.

First of all, the ultra smart Samsung F700, there is no WiFi connection, which means that this phone cannot be used in office wireless networks, a severe setback for many users. Secondly, the Samsung F700 lacks an 850 band and is being launched in Barcelona first. This phone will be in European markets long before it will ever arrive in the United States.

Also, the price tag of close to $800 pushes the Samsung F700 into a higher income bracket, taking away the appeal to mass consumers, used to buying PDA and cellular phone devices such as the Blackberry for around $500-600.

While the Samsung F700 may have a potentially better camera at 5.0 megapixels (this does not reflect a better lens necessarily in the camera for better image quality) and boasts strong network connectivity, the Samsung F700 does not yet show the capability or development level of software that is being demonstrated on the Apple iPhone. The Samsung F700 allows for document viewing. It remains to be seen if the Samsung F700 can deliver the level of sophistication and flexibility that the Apple iPhone offers consumers. Right now, the Samsung F700 though appealing, is trailing behind the Apple iPhone in price, Wi-Fi network access, availability and timing, and software compatibility and development. Maybe, the next few models after upgrades of the Samsung F700 will offer a significant challenge to the Apple iPhone.

But by then, the Apple iPhone may have developed a few of its own new tricks.
