If you ask most smartphone users what the best mobile web browser currently available is, most will say Opera Mini. But iPhone users have as yet not been able to avail themselves of this fantastic mobile web browser, until now. Or soon, rather.
On Wednesday, February 10, 2010, Opera, the makers of the Opera Mini web browser, announced that at this year’s Mobile World Congress they will be previewing a version of Opera Mini 5 for the iPhone.
Opera is currently putting the necessary pressure on Apple to permit the app into the iTunes App Store, since Apple traditionally hasn’t allowed any web browser that doesn’t support its own webkit.
Opera Mini 5, meanwhile, uses special compression technology that offers download speeds up to 6 times as fast as Safari, which they assert can help Apple and AT&T reduce the heavy traffic and strain iPhone users put on the wireless networks.
