Does the Apple iPhone have enough battery life?

This is a question many consumers and developers are anxiously asking. Like a typical cell phone, the iPhone generally is on all the time until the battery runs out. Even though it runs a Mac OS X platform, it does not have a sleep mode like other full Macintosh computers do.

However, what the iPhone does have instead is the ability to perform basic “housekeeping” tasks such as listening for new incoming calls, beaconing, etc and then switch into a lower consumption mode, using less power and extending battery life.

This is important when you look at the WiFi networking capabilities of the iPhone, which require a lot of battery power and will drain usage. Managed software will be able to extend battery life.
