1 in 10 professionals ready to buy iPhone
A recent survey conducted by ChangeWave Reseach concluded that 1 out of every 10 persons surveyed are ready
to purchase the upcoming Apple iPhone upon its release in mid to late June. Of the 3,500
respondants, most of whom are members of a 10,000 person group of business, technology,
and medical professionals, cited the integration of the iPod, cellular phone
functionality, the built-in 2-megapixel digital camera, and email/internet capability as
the primary reason for purchasing the new Apple iPhone.
Not only did 9% of the survey group say they were prepared to purchase an iPhone for
themselves, but an additional 7% of the group reported they would consider buying the
iPhone as a gift for someone else. "That's huge," ChangeWave founder Tobin Smith said.
"This is going to be a monster." With this kind of response, the survey suggests that the
consumer adoption rate for the Apple iPhone will far exceed the industry average for consumer
electronics. If this is the case, Smith expects Apple and AT&T to far exceed its original sales
goals.
Of the respondants that were likey buyers of the new Apple iPhone 79% said they were
going to be switching cell phone providers and use the iPhone as their primary phone.
While about 9% of those surveyed said they would be using the Apple iPhone in addition
to their existing cell phone.
While many consumers still feel that the iPhone is to expensive, many expect prices will
eventually drop. Of consumers surveyed, 10% said they would consider purchasing the 4GB iPhone
and 20% said they would buy the 8GB iPhone is prices fell between $200 and $299.
The new Apple iPhone is set to launch in mid to late June. The iPhone is not expected to be
delayed due to the recent announcment that Apple will delay the launch of its new operating
system, Leopard, until after the iPhone launch.
